Leading a spiritual emphasis on a rock climbing excursion

Outdoor Adventure

Following Jesus’ lead, we use outdoor adventure to facilitate opportunities for experiential learning.

Why do we go on adventures in LIFT?

  • sharing testimonies by the water

    Biblical Example

Many biblical figures had transformative encounters with God in the wilderness, and Jesus used adventure to strengthen the faith of His disciples. Outdoor environments are unique spaces for personal and spiritual transformation.

  • offering a helping hand on an excursion

    Developing Leadership Skills

You will have multiple chances to be the leader of the day on excursions, working with your assistant leader to plan logistics and a spiritual focus, allowing you to apply the leadership skills learned in the classroom.

  • eating and talking together while backpacking

    Community Building

The outdoor excursions create opportunities for fellowship with your LIFT peers and staff. These shared and sometimes challenging experiences will help you connect on a deeper level.

  • hiking Mt. Joe in the Adirondacks

    Experiencing God's Glory

The Bible often highlights the beauty and majesty of creation as a testament to God’s power and creativity. Outdoor adventures provide an opportunity to connect with God through the natural world.

  • Trail work while in New Hampshire

    Stewarding Creation

The Bible teaches us to be stewards of God’s creation. Spending time in the outdoors can help you develop a greater sense of responsibility for the environment and the natural world.

  • Reading the Bible while camping

    Spiritual Renewal

Excursions provide space for prayer and reflection. The adventure leader of the day will facilitate a spiritual emphasis to help the group step away from distractions and focus on the Lord.

What types of adventure?

During LIFT, you will experience various outdoor adventures with our LIFT staff who will train you before we take off on excursions. You do not need prior experience in any of these before beginning LIFT.
